Obituary

Adrian Carlos Owens, affectionately known as Carl, was born on January 16, 1961 in Chicago, IL to Frank and
Leaner Owens.
He departed this life on April 17, 2020 at the age of 59.
He is preceded in death by: His father, Frank Owens; and sister Betty Davis.
He was educated in the Chicago public school system and after high school he enlisted in the army. Carl was proud of
the time he spent serving his country as an Airborne Ranger where he received several accolades including the Parachute
badge and 1st Class (hand grenade).
Carl was great with his hands and could learn just about anything. Following his time in the army, he spent some time
working at Home Depot where he impacted the lives of everyone he came in contact with. He left there to become an
independent contractor, a job that allowed him to truly flex his many skills in home improvement, remodeling, and
maintenance. In between working on projects, Carl also enjoyed making music and doing videography. He was talented
on the keyboard, guitar, and just about anything he took an interest in.
Carl is survived by: His mother, Leeaner; two daughters, Aliyah and Maya; one son, CJ; three sisters, Marian, Diane,
and Laverne; two aunts, Annie Coutee of Clarksdale, MS, and Mildred Proffett of Detroit, MI; two uncles, Lester
Covington of Clarksdale, MS and David Covington of Stone Mountain, GA; a special partner, Sonya Gore; and a host
of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Daddy,
If there’s one thing we all can agree on it’s that you loved us with all your heart.
Not everyone is so fortunate to have a father that loves them and invests time in building a
relationship with them like you have done with us. Things may not have always been ideal,
but your love never changed. You live on in our hearts and through the things we do that we
inherited from you. There are so many lessons you taught us and you always kept it real with us
so we’d know what to expect in the real world. We love you so so much.
-Aliyah and Maya
I’ll never forget the long talks we had. I’ll never forget all the advice you gave me about girls. I’ll never forget
how you always showed so much interest in my passions maybe even more than I did. You told me you wanted
what’s best for me so imma keep moving forward and chase my dreams for you. Love you dad.
-CJ
Dear Uncle Carl,
You are the reason I found the beautiful voice God gave me.
I’ll never forget how safe I always felt when you were around us up
laughing and watching night Rider and you exposing me to
Prince and that Purple Rain.
I thought you was a superhero the way you played that guitar to
almost any song you heard. Tell my Granddaddy, Grandma,
and especially my dad I miss them. I'll forever keep you in that place you
stole 38 years ago, and that's my heart.
p.s. Make sure you show Prince that you the best uncle,
see you in that Purple Rain
