Obituary

ALBERTA RHODES, BORN NOVEMBER 4, 1943 IN LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, TO
THE LATE EDNA BUCHANAN-MIX-LAMBERT AND FRED BRYANT.
Alberta dedicated her life to Jehovah and was baptized May 16, 1998. She was a
member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (La Follette Congregation).
Alberta attended Cooley High School in Chicago, IL.
Alberta Rhodes married the love her life, Ambrose Rhodes, February 14, 1987.
Alberta was a dedicated hard-working woman. She was a food service worker for the
Chicago Public Schools for many years.
Alberta loved to socialize with family and friends, always offered advice with a good,
funny story. Alberta loved to cook for her family and spend time with them.
She was a devoted Wife, Mother, Sister and friend who brought a smile to all who she
encountered.
Alberta was known as “Bert” and loved by many.
Alberta Rhodes departed Sunday, May 3, 2020.
She was preceded in death by: Her parents, Edna Buchanan Lambert Mix and Fred
Bryant; son, Issac Bryant; sister, Pearlie Rhodes; brothers, Charles & Henry Rhodes.
Alberta leaves to cherish her loving memories: Her loving husband, Ambrose Rhodes;
three sisters, Lela Rhodes, Carol Mix, and Helen Mix; four brothers, Robert, Lorenzo,
Eddie and Dennis Mix; five children, Kevin, Martha (Dwight), Yvette, Kavell (Tatrice)
and Shawn (Sherah); twenty grandchildren, Laquita, Lavaro, Adrienne, Salina, Nyera,
Cierra, Tierra, Issac, Isiah, Kierra, Shakayla, Shuntyia, Makheal, Nathanal, Ja’Shawn,
Kimyona, A’Shaunti, Shauniya, Kamara and Sheriah; twenty great-grandchildren; and a
host of relatives and friends.
One quiet day the angels came and took grandma far away
but in the stillness of the night I could almost hear her say.
“Dear grandchild – I will miss you; you mean so much to me
But Jesus called me to his side, in Heaven I will be.
A place of God’s great beauty
No tears or earthly cares
Only peace & joy forever and love beyond compare.
So, remember all the good times, don’t think about the sad
Treasure all the special moments
Through the years we’ve always had.
And if you trust in Jesus, I can promise this & more
You will get a hug from grandma someday on Heaven’s golden shore
~Love, Your Great Grandchildren

Constantly thinking, never to be the same.
The tears fall quickly just hearing your name.
Silence is golden, yet not anymore.
Silence brings thoughts, I just can't ignore.
The nights are sleepless, dreams out of reach.
Crying in my pillow to you I beseech.
Surrounded by family, I still feel alone.
My heart is so empty, this pain I must own.
I wish I could hug you and just see your face.
But now I have memories to stand in your place.
Gone but not forgotten, that's what they say.
Of course, that is true...but if only you could have stayed.
~Love, Your Grandchildren
You were there when we took our first steps,
And went unsteadily across the floor.
You pushed and prodded: encouraged and guided,
Until our steps took us out the door…
You worry now “Are they ok?”
Is there more you could have done?
As we walk the paths of our unknown
You wonder “Where have my children gone?”
Where we are is where you have led us,
With your special love you showed us a way,
To believe in ourselves and the decisions we make.
Taking on the challenge of life day-to-day.
And where we go you can be sure,
In spirit you shall never be alone.
For where you are is what matters most to us,
Because to us that will always be home…
~Love, Your Children
You are not forgotten,
my love nor will you ever be,
as long as life and memory last
your soul will live in me.
I’ll miss you now my heart is sore,
as time goes by, I’ll miss you more.
Your loving smiles your gentle face,
No one can fill your vacant place.
~Love, Your Husband
