Obituary for Barbara King

Barbara J. King McMullen was born to Thelma and Lonnie Moore
on September 22, 1933 in Smithers, West Virginia. Barbara came
to Chicago with her mother as a child and it became her mainstay.
Barbara accepted Christ at an early age and fellowshipped with
Landmark Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member for
over 50 years. She was a member of the Missionary Society. She
loved the Lord and was a firm believer in “all things are possible”
through God and constantly told her family members to “put God in
your life”.
Barbara graduated high school at the age of 16 and pursued a sec-
ondary education whereby receiving an Associate degree in Busi-
ness. She worked as an order expediter for Spiegel where she retired
after 40 years of service.
Barbara enjoyed family gatherings, eating out, attending church
service and taking pictures, so much so, she was known as the fami-
ly photographer. She loved watching spiritual TV and old Western
movies. She was an avid reader and her favorite pass time was read-
ing the Bible.
Barbara departed this life on Monday, November 9, 2020.
She is preceded in death by: Her mother, Thelma Getret; father,
Lonnie Moore; son, Brian King; and husband, Greene McMullen.
Barbara leaves to cherish her loving memory: Her son, Robert King,
Jr., Aaron King (Carolyn), Vanetta Lemon (Mario); 22 grandchil-
dren; 35 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and one
Godson, Terry D, Carpenter II; and a host of cousins, friends and
her Landmark Missionary Baptist Church family.
My Dear Granny,
Thank you for the love that you gave me.
I’m truly at a loss for words. My heart hurts daily,
but our memories make me smile. I will never
forget your prayers along with
your beautiful smile.
