Obituary for Beauty Carter

I have heard some horrible things about you from those closest to
you throughout my life. You were called an alcoholic, not worthy,
and good for nothing. Your flaws and struggles were entertainment
for some and always put on display by others. There was no regard
for your children-we helplessly watched as our mother’s life was
treated like a comic relief by those who should have helped you or
walked away. You were showed no mercy. As your children, it hurt
us to the core and made us deeply sad. We never got the joke.
However, we were in no position to defend you.
On this day, we want you and those who judged you harshly to
hear the other side of the story. Our side. Your side.
To us, you were a star. Your light shined like the morning sun. Your
laughter and vibrant smile could fill any room. You were an amazing
person who covered your deep pain with worldly things but who are
we to judge? You were beautiful and you did the best you could with
the hand you were dealt. We saw your scars, your wounds, and your
heart. We understood what you must have gone through to arrive
where you were. No matter what was said about you, you were never
the bad guy to us. We know that you suffered at the hands of those
who should have protected you. You were judged by those who had
harmed you the most.
We love and loved you regardless of your flaws. You were always
perfect in our eyes. We understood your wings were clipped long
before you could learn to fly. You were worthy. You were more than
an alcoholic. You were a person, a daughter, a sister, an aunt,
a grandmother, a child of God. You were our mother.
May you know that you were loved by those who were meant to love
you. May you forever rest in peace, in the no judgment zone of
heaven with our Lord. May you know that we promise to always tell
THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY.
We love you,
Laverne’s kids.

The LORD is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow
of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my
enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD
Forever. Amen.
