Obituary for Dennis Melvin

Melvin Dennis passed away April 25, 2021, Melvin Dennis-was the Beloved son of Freddie and
Mary L. Dennis, Melvin was the third child born in Shaw, MS December 24,1947.
During the 50’s our mother moved to Chicago, IL to join her siblings. Melvin confessed his love
for Christ at an early age. Melvin went to Farragut High School, in Chicago, IL. Melvin served his
country in the US Army from 1968 – 1970; he served in the Viet Nam War. Melvin worked for
the city of Chicago for several years under the Veteran Placement Affair Act. Melvin, like many
other young men and women who served their country, did not do so without some repercussions
from the Viet Nam War. In the 1980’s, Melvin was granted a full VA Disability pension based on
his military service for PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Melvin was an excellent handy man;
if it could be fixed or repaired Melvin would figure out a way to make it work without a doubt.
In fact, Melvin worked as maintenance man for a private owned eight-unit building for several
years. But, Melvin’s real passion was electronics. Melvin had a true passion for electronics and
attended Washburne Trade School, in Chicago IL, under the GI bill (U S Army), where he earned a
certificate in electronics. Melvin would take electronic devices apart just to see how they work and
put them back together and fix them if needed if they could be fixed. Melvin had a lot of talent
and skills, and he was very smart. Melvin was also a good chess player; a game which requires a
great deal of concentration and talent.
