Obituary for Derrek Randall McCord

Derrek Randall McCord was born on May 24, 1955 to the union of
Ray D. McCord and Delores McCord, who both preceded him in
death.
Derrek received Christ at a young age, while attending St. Malachy
Church.
Derrek was born and raised on the westside of Chicago in Rockwell
Gardens. He enjoyed spending time playing outside with his siblings.
Derrek enjoyed watching TV, comic books and music.
Derrek’s love of music led him to join a band with his friends from
Rockwell Gardens called “Celsius”. He sang as an alto and a soprano
at times. The band covered R & B hits.
Derrek was a big sports fan, a black history buff, loved politics and
world events. He would debate them all.
Derrek will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Derrek transitioned from this life on September 4, 2021.
Derrek leaves to cherish his memory: His longtime companion, Patrica
Cage (who has since passed away); his son, Derrick Snell Jr. (Michele);
his grandchildren, Derrick III, Derrick IV, Mycal, Xuryah, Tiara,
Takaya and Kemaron; great grandchildren, Serenity, Kayden, Kiyan,
Tyshaun and Taliyah; five brothers, Ray and Erick (who both preceded
him in death), David (Geraldine), Jerome and James (Shelia); three
sisters, Carolyn (Louis), Lillian and Sharon; and a host of nieces,
nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends.
