Obituary for Donald A Scott

Donald Allen Scott Jr. was born on February 26, 1963, in the union to Donald Allen Scott Sr and
Juanita Scott-Samuels in Chicago Illinois. Donald was the oldest of seven siblings, Carl Scott, Ollie
Scott, Melonie Anderson, Sherise Spaulding, Darla Scott and Bertucci Kelly.
Donald committed his life to God at a very early age under his late grandfather Reverend Elisha
Anderson. Donald was raised in the Baptist Church and had a great love for God. Donald attended
George W. Collins High School in Chicago. Donald was married to Cynthia Chatman in January of
1987. That marriage was dissolved.
Donald had four children, oldest son Eric Diggins, Diamond Hopkins, Donald Allen Hopkins, and Star
Hopkins. He was the Godfather of Little Wanda. Donald spent his years before becoming ill, restoring
apartments & homes. He took great joy in doing this kind of work.
Donald enjoyed his craft in painting, plastering, and building. He was a dearest fan of football and
music. Donald also loved playing chess, dominoes and was great at sketching. Donald was always
listening to his “oldies” as he called it. He loved horror movies, as he spent much of his life introduc-
ing his children, nieces, & nephews to cinema. Though he belonged to Christ, his body and soul were
dedicated to raising his children. Donald had a great love for God’s word and would often tell his
doctors that, “God has the last word over me, I serve a God of Miracles”. He had the gift of being a
joker with a laugh that is printed into your memory if you heard him laugh.
Donald was both father and mother to his children. Donald was a single parent, raising his children
to the best of his ability. Donald was a loving caregiver to his nieces & nephews when needed. He
had nicknames for each one of them, making them feel special. No matter how old they were, he still
liked to baby talk to them. Donald was the type of father that watched over his children like a hawk.
Even as teenagers he dropped them off at school. His children would tell him I’m old enough to walk
on my own. But, Donald refused to allow his “Minnie Me” and his “Ma” to face the dangers of the
streets of Chicago.
When Donald took sick in 2016, his family bonded together to assure that he would have the best of
care during this challenging time. The Lord allowed Donald to remain with us an additional 5 years.
Donald was called by the Lord on January 5, 2022 at 2:00 a.m., surrounded by his brother Ollie
who was taking care of him in his home. He is preceded in death by: His mother, Juanita; his grand-
parents; and his stepbrother.
He leaves to cherish his memories: His children, Eric, Diamond, Donald and Star; his father, Donald A.
Scott (Betty); four grandchildren; his brothers, Carl and Ollie; sisters, Melonie, D
