Obituary

Edgar was born to the union of Albert and Alice Pugh Sr. in Tunica, Mississippi on November
24, 1946.
Edgar graduated from Rosa Fort High School in 1966. He attended Mississippi Valley State
College on a basketball scholarship. Shortly after, he moved to Chicago with his brother Ray and
sister in law Bertha. He later moved to Detroit and returned to Memphis Tennessee in 1977 to
take care of his ailing mother. Edgar met his childhood sweetheart Eulean in high school.
Several years later in 1978, while visiting Chicago, Edgar and Eulean were reunited. He said to
her, “You are not going to get away from me, I am going to marry you this time!” They were
united in Holy Matrimony in 1979. To their union, Edgar Antonio Pugh Jr. was born on April
14, 1980. He was also blessed with a special daughter Rhonda, who he raised as his very own.
Edgar confessed his sins, accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, and was baptized on his
birthday in 2017 by Reverend Andrew Sanders, a former classmate from Tunica, Mississippi.
Edgar enjoyed life to the fullest, his favorite song was Ain’t No Stopping Us Now – dubbed as
Eulean and his “theme” song, while “cruising” in their big blue Lincoln Continental. He was a
“gentle giant” who always kept a smile on his face. On Tuesday, May 26th just moments before
making his transition, he fearlessly and gracefully walked down the stairs of his home – as if he
was walking on clouds - taking the stairway to Heaven. While boarding the ambulance, he asked
Eulean, “Are you going with me?” She replied, “I can’t go with you now, but I’m coming.”
He is preceded in death by: His parents, Albert and Alice; son, Edgar A. Pugh Jr.; two brothers,
Robert T. Pugh and Ray C. Pugh. He was affectionately known as “Big Ed, Chief and Biggum.”
He leaves to cherish in his memories: Beloved wife of forty-three years, Eulean; one daughter,
Rhonda; one cherished and loved granddaughter, Deija; two sons, Patrick W. Crutchfield and
Lee Dodson; special daughter-in-law, Catherine; two grandsons, Sage and Brandon; one sister,
Charles J. Bailey; one brother, Albert Pugh Jr.; special nephew, Willie B. Pugh (Betty); four
sisters-in-law, Eunice Dockery (Jack), Lillian Pegues, Bertha Pugh, Deborah Hester (Cedric); four
brothers-in-law, Manuel Wright Jr. (Frances), Louis Wright, Richard Wright (Rosa), Nathaniel
Wright (Patricia); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom he loved.
