Obituary for Huey Burkes

Huey Lee Burkes was born the third of twelve children to the union of
Ruby Smith and Eddie Lee Burkes, Sr., on January 24, 1942.
His parents, older brother Eddie Lee (Buddy) - 2010, Daisy Mae Brady -
2012 and Erving Burkes - 2020 - preceded him in death.
Huey went to Derosset High School in Arkansas where he earned his high
school diploma. Huey was married to Queen Burkes before joining the
military (1964-1966) and when he was discharged, he moved to Chicago
with Queen. They had two sons, Andre and Dandre (Deon).
Later, Huey met the love of his life, Sandra (Koenig) Burkes and they were
united in Holy Matrimony in 1994.
Huey enjoyed many road trip vacations both before and after retirement.
He took a few trips to; Florida (Walt Disney World), New York (Statute of
Liberty), Boardwalk in New Jersey, a trip to California (DisneyLand), and
back to Las Vegas a couple of times. Huey also enjoyed going fishing,
traveling to many locations over the years.
Huey worked various jobs over his lifetime, including at a company to re-
pair the bridges - filling in cracks (epoxy) in the bridge walls.
Huey is survived by: His wife of 26 years, Sandra; two sons, Andre
(Cindy) and Dandre; two grandsons, Andre, Jr. and Deontae; two grand-
daughters, Kyleigh and Kaitlyn; seven sisters, Wyoma Mills (West Mem-
phis, Arkansas), Lucille Duff (Forrest City, Arkansas), Jean (Olin) Murphy
(Little Rock, Arkansas), Margie (Lacey) Lucas (Forrest City, Arkansas),
Eunice (Williebee) Smith (Little Rock, Arkansas), Brenda Stegall (Forrest
City, Arkansas) and Bernice (Jesse) McFadden, (Detroit, Michigan); two
brothers, John Burks (Chicago, Illinois) and Melvin Burks (Dallas, Texas);
and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
