Obituary for James Edward Harper

James Edward Harper was born on September 29, 1952
to Lottie and Julie, but he was his grandmother, Emma
Robinson's favorite. He always held a special place in his heart
for his “Pops”, Neil Matthews.

He grew up on the west side of Chicago, where he attended
and graduated from Austin High School in 1971. At Austin,
he excelled academically, he loved and played baseball, and
he loved to sing.

After high school, he then enlisted in the Army National
Guard. In 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Daisy
Hughes. From this union, 2 children were born, Vauncia and
Christopher.

James worked for People's Gas for 30 years, and he retired in
2008. He loved God, loved to read, loved to fish, loved to
cook, and he loved listening to music.

He leaves to cherish: His wife, Daisy; one daughter, Vauncia
(Andrew); one son, Christopher; three grandchildren, Cyrus,
Caitlyn, and Sophia; one sister, Cheryl Thomas, one brother,
Darrell Harper; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews,
relatives, and friends, a very special and close uncle, Jackie
Robinson.
