Obituary

Josie Louise Thomas was born October 29, 1948 in Fairfield, Alabama. She was the second daughter born to Dorthola Wilson and Olise Thomas.
Josie attended William McKinley grade school and Rich-ard T. Crane high school. She graduated from Crane as the salutatorian in December of 1966. After graduating she continued her education at Malcolm X college where she received her degree in Respiratory Therapy in 1967. She was employed at Rush-Presbyterian hospital where she enjoyed a 35 year career.
In 1966 Norman Jackson and Josie Jackson were married and welcomed their first son Anthony in 1967. In 1968 they welcomed their second son Ian. Josie had a warm heart and was a mother to more than just her own sons.
Josie was the kind of lady that whatever issue you had, good or bad, even it didn't make sense she could accept you for you. She wasn't the type to bite her tongue and when you left her presence you didn't feel like you were being talked to, you felt like you were being heard. If you were considered her friend there were no
limits to her generosity. If you needed a shoulder to lean on, or maybe a couple of dollars, she would make sure that you were taken care of.
Josie was a spiritual woman who believed in God and loved life. In her retirement she spent her time at Amundsen park district with her friends. She loved to crochet and could grow anything with a pot and some soil. Josie was a great cook and loved animals.
Josie departed this life Wednesday, January 14, 2020. She is preceded in death by; Delores Thomas (sister) and Lea Bates (niece).
She leaves to cherish her memories: Anthony and Ian (sons), Theodora Griffin (sister), Serwaa Bates-Ferguson (niece), Mupiri Bates (nephew), Jumaani Bates (nephew), Terrell Griffin (nephew), Johari Peeples (grandniece), Ryan Bates (grandnephew), Lamar Bates (grandnephew), Aimir Bates (grandnephew), Khabar Bates (grandnephew), Malik Ferguson (grandnephew), Zeus (dog).
