Obituary for Katherine Flowers

Katherine was born on December 4, 1936 to the
late Willie and Elizabeth Banks in Mineral Wells,
MS. She was the first of two children born to
this union.
Katherine “Kat” confessed a hope in Christ
in 1950 and was baptized at the Oakville
Tennessee M.B. Church, under the leader-
ship of Rev. H.J. Thompson.
After graduating from eighth grade at Oak-
ville Elementary in 1953, she came to Chica-
go to live with her Aunt. Katherine attended
John Marshall High School and became a mem-
ber of Timothy Reeves Methodist Church, under
the leadership of Rev. Anderson.
On July 18, 1957 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Presley Earl Flowers. To this
union four children were born. Her son, Reginald preceded her in death. In 1971 she
joined Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Matthew Thomas. She
was a member of the Inspiration Choir and served as president on the Kitchen Com-
mittee. Katherine loved to sew and cook. She spent most of her life making clothes
for people and worked in various factories. She retired from the Juvenile Detention
Center after working as a seamstress for 16 years.
Ma, as she was affectionately called by her family, departed this life on Thursday,
June 10th.
She leaves to rejoice in her memory: Her brother, Charles Banks of Buffalo, NY; three
children, Andre of St. Louis, Monique and Stephanie; six grandchildren, Niquela, Icoi,
Kennique, Kennelle, Taylor and Marquis; five great grandchildren, Mekhi, Elise,
Marshall, Jerzi and Elliot.
