Mother Katie May McGee (born Katie May Bowman) was born on September 12,
1931 (89 years ago) to Sam and Katie Bowman in Mileston, Mississippi. She was
the third child of 12 children. All have gone to glory except one brother, Levy Bow-
man and one sister, Mary Lou Bowman, both of Chicago, IL.
Katie accepted Christ as her savior at an early age. She received her education
while taking the responsibility of helping her father care for five younger siblings,
after her mother passed away.
In 1952, she married the love of her life, Walter McGee (now deceased) and moved
to Chicago to start her family and work as a laborer. She was a devoted wife and
mother to six children, Jerrydean, Eric “Red” and Carolyn “Sally” (Lovell), all of
Chicago, and sons, Walter Jr. “Tobo”, Benny “Fruitcake” and Terry “Terrif”, who all
have gone to glory.
Katie will always be remembered as an easy going, kind spoken listener with much
wisdom, who didn’t judge. This made her a great church mother to her St. Jude
Church family until she became to ill to attend. She was always putting others
needs before her own. She was also a great cook.
Katie has finally become too tired, never complaining, even when she wasn’t feeling
well. So God saw fit to call his servant home on December 7, 2020 to rest with her
Heavenly family.
She leaves to mourn: Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-
great-grandchildren; her Godson, Ricky Norman; and many, many family and
friends.
A million times we will miss you,
