Lafra Davon Halton was born November 1, 1976 to Melva Jean Halton and the late Leon Cooper in
Chicago, Illinois. He was the second child of four siblings.
Lafra attended George W Collins High School in Chicago and graduated in 1995. In school, he was
an avid swimmer, and a football player. He was also a youth mentor at the Boys and Girls Club.
Lafra loved cars especially fast ones. He acquired a passion for auto mechanics at a young age and
learned everything from his grandfather, Johnie Halton and his great uncle, the late Russell Halton.
In 2014, Lafra graduated at the top of his class from Lincoln College of Technology for Collision
Repair and Refinishing. His current occupation was master mechanic and recently became a
certified ASE Technician at Car Care Plus.
He started off with rough beginnings, but he changed his life around. Lafra had so many gifts and
none were wasted. He was an extraordinary man, and he shared his talent with the world.
He lived most of his childhood on West End and Lacrosse where he was known as Skoney and Fra.
Lafra was always there for people in their time of need. He was a jokester, and he was fascinated
with firearms. He was an unconventional chef and a junk food connoisseur. Lafra recently grew a
passion for traveling. He wanted to inspire young black men to do better in life. He and his sons had
plans to create services to help the community. He will forever be missed.
Lafra married the love of his life, Abigail on March 16, 2019. Together they have seven children.
Lafra Halton Jr, Tyshaun Bryant, Shaniyla Griffin; stepchildren that he called his own, Tashia Gould,
Montel Gould Jr, Alexus Gould, Elliot Gould, and one granddaughter, Ty’lah Bryant. Lafra also raised
Shavonna Griffin as his daughter. He was a father figure to many including his nieces and nephews.
On Saturday, October 3, 2020 Lafra received his wings.
His memories will be cherished by: His wife, Abigail Halton; seven children, Lafra Halton Jr, Tyshaun
Bryant, Shaniyla Griffin, Tashia Gould, Montel Gould Jr, Alexus Gould and Elliot Gould; one grand-
daughter, Ty’lah Bryant; his mother, Melva Jean Halton; three siblings, Tyrone Halton, Melissa Brown
(Everett) and Lakeita Halton of Chicago, Illinois; a special aunt, Sylvia Weaver (Kenneth) of Chicago,
Illinois; a special friend/brother, Bruce McCamury of Chicago, Illinois; a special cousin/brother,
Darrien Brown aka Dbo; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
