Robert Lee Norris was born on February 18, 1950 in Columbus, SC to the
union of Essie B. Ward and Earnest Norris. He attended Joseph Medill Ele-
mentary School and Crane High School.
Robert accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized at the age of
6. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at the age of 12 under the pastor-
age of the late Pastor Donald Becker. Robert recently retired from Edward
Hines V.A. Hospital after twenty years of service. He spent his last years en-
joying the fruit of his labors. He loved watching movies and old westerns.
Robert was an avid music lover. During his youth he was a member of the
Enchanted 5, managed by Gerald Downing. The groups included his brother,
Alton Norris and childhood friends, Gergory Mitchell, Jimmie Mithcell and
Ricardo Hutchins. He later joined the group called the Deisres, where he ful-
filled his dream of recording his first single, “Black Girl.”
Robert is preceded in death by: His father, Earnest Norris; grandmother, Es-
ther Ray; son, Robert Lavelle Norris; and brothers, Alton Norris, Jerome Wells
and Kenneth Wells.
Robert leaves fond memories in the hearts of: His mother, Essie Norris; loving
companion, Adrian Willis; siblings, Virginia Mason, Jerome Norris, Eddie Wells
and Kim Wells; daughters, Latanya Norris, Yolanda Norris, Sheron Washing-
ton and Anita White; and sons, Quentin Norris, (James) Robert Norris III
(Virginia). He leaves a great legacy of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, including special family
friends, the Downing family.
