Roosevelt McGee Jr was born on January 8, 1939, to Roosevelt and Gillie McGee in Selby,
Mississippi. Roosevelt and Gillie both preceded him in death. Roosevelt was the third of 7
siblings: Lucy Mae Wells, Willie Bee Johnson, Clyde McGee, Effie Toliver, Nazaree Harper,
and Josephine Neighbors.
Roosevelt relocated to Chicago, Illinois where he found Christ under the leadership of the
late Bishop Willie A. Treadwell. Roosevelt enjoyed his work as a cab driver and was known
as “Doghead” to his friends. Working through segregation, Roosevelt secured a janitorial
position at Willowbrook High School and later married Ruth Warren on June 13, 1977.
Their matrimony included a combination of 12 children.
Roosevelt was a church going and praying man of God. He sat under the leadership of
Reverend James Brown and Bishop Dwayne Funches serving as Deacon. His home church
was Bishop James Springfield of Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Roosevelt loved
his members and was excited to serve as Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.
On Thursday, September 2, 2021, Roosevelt gained his wings and joined: His parents,
Roosevelt and Gillie McGee; his sister, Lucy Mae Wells; and three of his children, Roosevelt
McGee “Dimple”, Ruth Raggs, and Joyce Dennis in their heavenly home.
He leaves to cherish his memories: His cherished wife, Ruth McGee; his siblings, Effie
Toliver (George Toliver), Nazaree Harper and Josephine Neighbors; his children, Karlyn
(George) Howard, Marlene President, Malik Warren, Cathy (Phillip), Johnny (DeDe), Steven
(Simone), Patty (Jimmy), Kenneth (Michelle), Derrick (Andrea), Matthew Lynch (Debra
Drayton), Latrice Lynch and Samuel Lynch; and a host of grandchildren, great-
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Thank you for your endless love
That will help me through each day
And thank you for the memories
That will never fade away.
And every day in some small way,
I will celebrate your life.
As long as memories last,
I will be thankful for your life.
So sleep on daddy,
Take your rest.
We all love you
But God loves you best
~Your children
We think about you always,
We talk about you still,
You have never been forgotten,
And you never will.
We hold you close within our hearts
And there you will remain
To walk and guide us through our lives,
Until we meet again.
~Your Grand and Great Grandchildren
