Obituary for Roy Ball

Roy Ball was born on April 24, 1946 in Grenada, Mississippi to the union of
the late Remus Ball Sr. and Willietta Ball. Roy was the baby of sixteen chil-
dren, thirteen of which preceded him in death. The family relocated to Chi-
cago, IL in 1951 when Roy was five years old.
Roy attended Schiller Elementary and graduated from Waller High School.
He accepted Christ at an early age.
Roy worked as a Custodian at Sears Roebuck and Company. He then later
worked as a cab driver for Sure-Way Cab Company, where he became
known as Four-Tray.
Roy was known for his deep voice and very infectious laugh. The more he
got into God’s word, the more he knew God called him to be a preacher. In
1974, Roy became a member of New Home M.B.C., under the leadership of
Pastor Mack McCullom. It was there that he preached his trial sermon. A
short year later, in 1975, he was ordained under the leadership of Pastor
Peter Staples at Peter Temple on the South Side of Chicago, 75th and
Halsted. That church soon dissolved and he joined Greater Damascus
M.B.C. in 1977, under the leadership of Pastor Curtis Brooks. Pastor Peter
Staples was called to lead the Original Greater Garfield M.B.C. and Roy re-
turned there with him, where he stayed until his health failed him.
Roy will really be missed by everyone he came in contact with.
Roy leaves to cherish his loving memories: One sister, Tommie Ball, of Chi-
cago, IL; one brother, Remus Ball Jr. (Dorthy) of Harvest, AL; and a host of
nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
