Obituary

Our beloved Rufus King Childs was born in Memphis, Tennessee on December 21, 1948
to Ms. Elizabeth Childs and Elijah Childs.
Rufus was the fourth child out of seven siblings, Rufus is preceded in death by: His father,
Elijah; mother, Elizabeth; sister, Nancy; brothers, Earl and Isreal; and step daughter,
Elaine.
Rufus was delightfully charismatic, with a very engaging personality and liked making
others feel comfortable, joyful and happy. He enriched the lives of all those who knew him
and he was known for his gentle kind spirit, cheerful personality and caring heart. He
always wanted everyone around him to be happy and that made him happy.
He helped the people he knew in anyway he could. Rufus always kept such a bright spirit
and would fill the room with his spirit no matter where he was.
Rufus loved doing things with his family every chance that he got. He loved the holidays
and would always call his daughter Cassandra and say “Are you cooking?” and “what are
you cooking?” and when she told him what she was cooking he always said “I want
everything” and call him when she is on her way. He was a strong man that loved his
children very dearly, he had a special bond with each one of them.
Rufus leaves with love to cherish his memory: Seven children, Michael Martin, Cassandra
Martin and James Martin, Rufus Jr., Daniel, Donald and Emanuel; three siblings, William
G. Childs Sr. (Mary), Elijah Childs and Marie Childs; ten grandchildren; seven great grand-
children; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

My dear brother, you were a blessing in my life.
Memories of you are a treasure.
You are loved beyond words,
and missed beyond words
and missed beyond measure.
Always in My Heart.
~Your Sister, Marie

Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us everyday.
Unseen, unheard but always near, so loved,
so missed, so very dear.
Rest in peace Uncle Rufus.
~Your Niece, Michelle and Family

An uncle is a blessing, it means so many things words could
never tell the joy an uncle brings.
An uncle is a bond of faith that even time can’t sever,
a gift to last all of our lives, an uncle is forever.
~Your Nephew and Nieces,

Michael, Mark, Michelle and Latricia
While you were here on earth, it was meant to be.
Now you’re gone in our hearts you still are near.
Rest in peace.
~Your Brother, Elijah Childs Jr.

What I’ll always remember is how caring, loving and giving you
were to me. How you always made me laugh.
I’ll never forget all of the places that you took me
when I was growing up.
I’ll never forget all the birthdays that you showed up
for me and showed out. I’ll always love you
and I’ll always remember how much you loved me.
Rest in Heaven Daddy.
~Love Your Daughter, Cassandra

Thinking of You
My father was a very caring and loving man
who taught me many things in life.
Every time I reached a low point in life
he always had the right advice for me to get
back on track.
I just want you to know that we love you
and you will be missed. See you again.
~Love Your Son, Rufus Jr.
