Obituary for Steve Griggs
Our beloved Mr. Steve Winston Griggs was born October 26, 1959 to the Union of
Mr. Willie Lee and Mable Pearl Griggs in Chicago, Illinois. Steve attended Whitney
Young High School in Chicago Illinois.
He served in the Military with the U.S. Navel Reserve, where he began his Culinary
Career in San Diego, California. Steve later attended T.A.P.S Cooking School in
Melrose Park, Illinois, as well as Triton College in River Grove, Illinois.
As a Chef, Steve had many jobs, which included working for Family Owned
Businesses such as, "Dad's Barbecue", and "Hank's Carry Out". He also worked at
Brach's Candy Company in Chicago Illinois. Steve ultimately became a Head Chef
at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL, where he cooked specifically for the Owners and
Players of the Chicago Fire.
Throughout his Culinary Career, some Highlights included cooking for Hall of Famer
Michael Jordan, as well as President Barack Obama. He accepted Christ and was
baptized at Rock of Ages Baptist Church. Steve Married The Love of His Life Angela
M. Murray in 2012. He Passionately enjoyed Family gatherings, Live Music, Step-
ping, and of course Cooking. His Display of Love for His Family was Unmatched, and
He Unified Us All.
Steve made his transition to be with The Lord on October 24, 2019 at 4:59 a.m. He
is preceded in death by his parents; Willie Lee Griggs and Mable Pearl Barr, two
Brothers; Charles Michael Griggs Sr. and Willie James Griggs Sr.
Steve leaves to cherish his memories: His Wife; Angela M Griggs, his Children;
Steven J. Griggs (Andrea), Aja Pearl Griggs, LaPorsha Meredith, and Chevon
Meredith, Three Siblings; Cheryl Harris (Erick), Oliver Trenel Barr, Devlyn Coleman
(Michael), three grandchildren; Jordan Powers, Simone Griggs, Ethan Andrew,
Stepfather; Oliver Barr, Aunts; Tommie Jean Winters, Thelma Moore, Pearlie Mae
Griggs, Dinah Clay (Robert), Katie Griggs and one Uncle; Preston Griggs Jr.,
nephews; Charles Michael Griggs Jr., Willie James Griggs Jr., Javonta Barr, Jaelin
Barr, King Buford, nieces; Chemere Griggs, Bulina Maria Griggs, Alexis Barr,
McKenzie, Mia, Maya, and Malayah Coleman, great nephews and nieces; Lavares,
Kentrell, Brooke, Javon, and Brylee, and one great great nephew; Laveras Jr. and a
Host of Sister-N-Laws, Cousins and other Relatives and Friends. Steven Will be
Missed Tremendously.
