Obituary

Mrs. Versey M. Boykin was born February 24, 1944
in Chicago, IL to the late James Gordon and Versell
(Porter) Gordon, she was the oldest of two children.

Versey lived on the westside of Chicago. She grew up
in the Henry Horner Projects. She attended McKinley
Grammar School and Crane High School, where she
graduated from in 1961.

Versey went on to meet the love of her life and on July 15, 1967, she was united in holy
matrimony to Judge Boykin (who preceded her death).

But that wasn’t it for Mrs. Versey B. In 1975, she decided to dedicate her life to Jehovah
and become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She also worked at Marshall Fields for several
years and retired in 1985. She wanted to focus on her family and give more time in
serving Jehovah.

To know Versey was to love her and when you saw her, she greeted you with a big smile
and her beautiful bubbly eyes. She enjoyed going in field services and morning hangouts
with her friends. She loved telling stories and when she could lend a helping hand, she did
it with a loving smile. Versey also loved to read and watch tv at the same time. Find her a
mystery movie and she would solve it before the first commercial.

Versey will definitely be missed.

Left to cherish her memories are: Her five children, Belgium Gordon, Todd Boykin, Steven
Boykin, Jada Boykin and Janette Edwards; one sister, Janet Foley; sixteen grandchildren,
four great-grandchildren; two grand daughters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews and
cousins; special sons and daughters; her spiritual brothers and sisters; and many friends.
And no resident will say:
I am sick the people dwelling in the land
will be pardoned for their error.
With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look!
The tent of God is with mankind and he will reside with them
and they will be his people. And God himself will be with
them and he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and
death will be no more neither will mourning nor outcry nor
pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.
