and Leola Henderson she was the fifth of ten children: Della Mae Garmon (deceased), Ella Mae
Rosenthal (deceased), Willie Henderson Jr (deceased), John Henderson (deceased), Thelma
Henderson, Tommy Henderson (deceased), Judy Henderson, Betty McDaniels (deceased),
Emma was introduced to a Christian life at a young age by her mother. She was a Baptist
church member in Mississippi but later became a member of the Pentecostal church at Miracle
Revival Center in Maywood Illinois. She later transferred to Whole Truth/Walkers Memorial
C.O.G.I.C. in Chicago Illinois where she became a member of the mother’s board. She remained
a member until her transition.
After her completion of school she met the love of her life Lonnie McKnight. They began their
family with two children: Edward Larnell Henderson and Loretta Henderson. To their union were
born six additional children: Jackie Henderson, Randy McKnight Sr, Bettie McKnight, Kathleen
McKnight, Shawn Henderson, Toccara Henderson-Thomas.
Emma worked many jobs in her lifetime but her main career choices consisted of teacher’s
assistant and Certified Nurse’s Assistant. She was mainly a loving, caring, homemaker dedicat-
ed to her loving husband and children. She took every opportunity to help others from her
mother and father, sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, and neighbors. If anyone had a
need she was more than willing to help with no questions asked. She was a lover of people and
would help any and everyone. She always had a smile on her face and words of encouragement
to anyone who needed it. She was highly respected for her compassion. She was an outstanding
The second joy of her life were her grandchildren: Kenya, Larnell Jr., Lashonda, Steven, Loretta,
Nieka. She had a special bond with her grandchildren and she was the love of their life. They
marveled at her strength, her abilities, her cooking skills, and they were there to soak up every
piece of knowledge, advice and story time she had to offer. Her grandchildren that were right
by her side through her good and bad times and always obedient: Randy Jr, Shekira, Tyler, Dion
Jr, Djimon, Tatiana, Quinn, Justin, Jasmine and Jack Jr.
She called her daughter-in-law Barbara McKnight her daughter; she loved her dearly and
Barbara was helpful in caring for her during her time of need. Her ex daughter-in-law, Mattie
Henderson helped her on many occasions and she was very fond of her as well.
